I am pleased to announce that Komprise, a data management software provider for the cloud and big data era, has raised its $6MM Series A, led by Canaan Partners. Komprise was founded by three infrastructure software veterans – Kumar Goswami, Krishna Subramanian and Mike Peercy.
The trio’s latest venture (their third together) provides intelligent capacity and data lifecycle management that works across heterogeneous data stores and cloud storage, for both structured and unstructured data. Komprise enables businesses to manage data at scale by using “data-aware” automation that eliminates the manual heavy lifting of traditional approaches. The Komprise analytics module continuously delivers insights into how and where data is growing and being used. These deep insights are the driving force behind Komprise’s data lifecycle management.
The rise of structured and unstructured data and its related storage costs combine to make the right market drivers and forces for Komprise to expand rapidly in the enterprise. Today, enterprises struggle to manage and store massive volumes of data and don’t have the ability to extract meaningful insights from that data. The cost of managing that data alone is typically 80% of the TCO. Komprise’s “data-aware” solution offers enterprises a deeper and different look at their exploding data problem. Komprise users are able to perpetually streamline, identify and prioritize the “right” data, not necessarily the data that is deemed “hot,” with a storage agnostic software solution that works across silos.
I first met Krishna Subramanian, Komprise’s co-founder, nearly a decade ago while she was in business development at Sun Microsystems. I was incredibly impressed by her aptitude and drive, as well as her ability to be technical and sales-oriented. I hoped I would one day find a way to work with her. Now is the time as the big data trends all work in Komprise’s favor. I couldn’t be more excited/curious to see how far Krishna and team can go. Welcome, after all these years, to the Canaan Partners family.
