Rayfe Gaspar-Asaoka joined Canaan’s Menlo Park office in 2015 on the Technology Team. Born and raised in Hawaii, he has always enjoyed challenging the status quo and taking the unconventional path in life. Rayfe focuses on enterprise, infrastructure software, AI, and space investments, and looks for entrepreneurs with that same contrarian perspective of unconventional curiosity.
Before joining Canaan, Rayfe worked as a Senior Associate at Keystone Strategy, a boutique management consulting firm, where he focused on developing Cloud, Open Source Software, and Internet of Things ecosystem strategies for Fortune 500 technology companies. Prior to that, he developed deep learning algorithms for Wolverine Trading, and built ASICs for next gen radar systems at Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems.
Rayfe earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, where his research focused on VLSI circuit design for synthetic biology Lab-on-Chip applications. He also holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on BioMEMS and digital signal processing, from the University of Southern California, where he graduated top of his class in 3 years. He is also an NCAA Water Polo champion.
