With nearly 25 years of experience as a venture capitalist and CEO of two healthcare companies, John brings a wide-ranging perspective to Canaan. John initially joined Canaan in 2000 as a healthcare investor and served interim roles in Canaan portfolio companies before being named CEO of Abyrx (formerly Orthocon) in 2010.

John helped lead the fundraising efforts for Canaan XII, Canaan XIII, Canaan XIII Healthcare, and Canaan Gold Coast, bringing over $1.75 billion of capital into the firm for investment into early-stage technology and healthcare companies. John is on the boards of directors at Abyrx, Aceiss, Axcelius I/II, Transposon Therapeutics, and PrimeFour Therapeutics. He is also the co-founder and chairman of the board at Kairuku, Inc., a SaaS provider for medical companies engaging with hospitals and surgery centers. John received a B.S. degree from Fairfield University, a MBA from Columbia Business School, and is a Kauffman Fellow.
